Clove basil is a very vigorous perennial plant that strikes readily from cuttings and germinates well from seed. In the Hawaiian tropics we have seen it grow to 8 feet tall and 10 feet in diameter. In its larger form clove basil completely shades out our tropical grasses. Therefore, making it a useful hedge plant. However, in other climates it may still thrive in much smaller pots or in garden plots.

We use clove basil to make fresh teas because it is high in antioxidants and has a warming clove aroma and taste. In Ayurvedic medicine, Clove basil is used to treat stress, anxiety, heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, and dementia.
